Diving in Antarctica is not for the faint hearted, plunging into ice cold waters and adverse weather conditions put stress on the body and your equipment and demands a higher level of experience for anyone interested in diving here. Having said this, there is nothing quite like scuba diving next to massive ice bergs whilst watching penguins plunging into the water en masse from below the surface.  Each dive is truly different from the last. The underwater seascape is ever evolving and a truly magnificent sight to behold when the sunlight reflects off an amazing masse of submerged ice surrounded by the beautiful turquoise blue of the ocean, making this one of the most special aspects of the Antarctic.

The Antarctic climate is the coldest in the world and is also surprisingly dry, averaging 166 mm (6.5 inches) of precipitation per year. What little snow falls rarely melts and over time it is compressed into the glacial ice sheet. Most of Antarctica has an ice cap climate with no single month averaging above 0 °C (32 °F). However some of the fringe coastal areas have more of a polar climate which gives rise to a short summer averaging above freezing, and much higher precipitation.

All year round.

Marine life that you might hope to encounter include; fur seals, penguins, giant isopods (huge woodlice that crawl along the sea bed) and Antarctic bloodless fish (which are filled with their own special type of anti-freeze). This world is little documented and new species are discovered all the time. Due to the extreme conditions, increased air consumption rates, fatigue and moving nature of the ice it is important that you have the appropriate training, experience, equipment and planning.

Boat.

Staying warm in your cabin!

The Cold, but if you are set on diving here, I don't think it will put you off.
