Inhaca Island is just a 10 minute flight from Maputo (Mozambique’s Capital), the island is relatively small covering 52km2, the island dimensions are 12km running from north to south and 7km from west to east. There is one lodge and five small villages on the island inhabited by locals. When you fly into the island from Maputo there is an arrival and departure tax of US $8 per person.

Voltage at the island lodge is 220v and a converter can be provided at Reception if needed. On the island Meticais, SA rand, US dollars and all major credit cards can be all used to pay for purchases.

When transferring from Maputo to the island by plane the luggage allowance is 20kg for hold luggage and one item of hand luggage (carry on). If you fly direct from further afield the allowance increases to 30kg.

We would thoroughly recommend all tourists to take anti-malarias prior to arriving on the island and ensure that you bring plenty of insect repellent (preferably with DEET) as none is provided at the lodge. There are mosquito nets over the beds and mesh in front of the doors and windows.

Mozambique has a hot tropical climate with a rainy season from October and March, with the dry season running from April to September. There is little temperature variation between there seasons with average temperatures ranging from the low 20°C (68°F) getting up to 30°C (86°F) during the hottest summer days.

June to October

This is generally the driest time of the year and also the period of best water visibility.

Diving on Inhaca Island is known for its unspoiled reefs with lots of Staghorn and Plate corals, some great shark diving and local wrecks. On the many dive sites around the island, you are likely to see potato bass, moray eels, kingfish and large schools of barracuda. You may even see Whale Sharks and Manta Rays in summer season.

Diving on the island reaches a maximum depth of 30m (59 feet), with the average dive depth being 18 m (59 feet), making this a good area for novice divers.

22°C to 27°C (71°F to 80°F)

Inhaca Island is just a 10 minute flight from Maputo (Mozambique’s Capital). Various companies also offer boat transfer to larger groups. With magnificent white sand beaches this is a truly special African island.

Local excursions include boat trips to the nearby Portuguese Island, visits to the local village, excursions to the Marine Biology Museum and the Inhaca Lighthouse.

The island is quite small with limited activities, so we would suggest a short trip to the island.
